Andrew Karlyn, PhD, serves as USAID’s Global Development Lab’s Africa Regional Advisor, based in Nairobi, supporting digital finance initiatives in health, social protection, agriculture and democracy and governance programs. Trained as a medical anthropologist, demographer, and public health specialist, Andrew deployed a number of tech solutions in Africa, including the delivery of pre- and post-test HIV counseling via mobile phones, mobile job-aids and task-shifting tools for low-literate community health workers, mobile phone survey sample selection; and point-of-care user self-assessment tools in low-resource health care settings.
