Elliot Vhurumuku

United Nations World Food Programme (WFP)

Elliot Vhurumuku has over 30 years of experience in rural development; capacity development; food security assessments and analysis; markets analysis; farm business economics; extension; project appraisal and management. He is a United Nations World Food Programme Regional Programme Advisor for East and Central Africa, dealing with markets, food security and vulnerability assessments. Elliot has led assessments in several countries in east and central Asia such Afghanistan, Pakistan and Sri Lanka; in east and central Africa such as in South Sudan, Djibouti and Uganda. He also worked as a Technical Adviser to the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) on food security and vulnerability, and provided technical advice on assessments and food security in 14 countries in Southern Africa. He has worked in Ethiopia where he has led food security and market studies such as Urban Vulnerability and Impact of global financial and economic crisis on food security for Ethiopia. He has also worked for the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) funded project – the Famine Early Warning Systems Network (FEWS NET) in Zimbabwe as the Country Representative. Elliot holds a Masters’ of Science (MSc) degree in Agricultural Economics from the University of London (Wye College), United Kingdom.
